The University of Wyoming has sexual assault prevention training that is in-person and includes bystander intervention. They do not provide a clear definition of sexual assault, and it is not obvious whether it includes acts other than intercourse. The university has an affirmative consent policy, but their definition of affirmative consent only partially matches EROC’s definition. They forbid retaliation against survivors and provide a definition of what constitutes retaliation.
A hearing officer investigates the case and makes a finding on responsibility and sanctions. Their sanctioning code specifies a likely sanction of suspension or expulsion for being found responsible of forced sexual intercourse. The Dean of Students hears appeals when sanctions are less than suspension, the Vice President for Student Affairs hears appeals when the sanction is suspension, and the Vice President for Academic Affairs hears appeals when the sanction is expulsion. Attorneys are allowed during the adjudication process, mediation is explicitly forbidden in cases of sexual assault, and the university provides an investigation timeline of 30 days. The university does not specify whether investigators are trauma informed and does not publicize the number of cases and sanctions.
They provide accommodations to survivors outside of the investigation and adjudication process, regardless of whether or not a formal report is made. University of Wyoming has a student health center, but it is unclear whether emergency contraception is available or if they have a sexual assault center. The university has on-campus advocacy center for sexual assault survivors called the STOP Violence program. They also have information and resources on local rape crisis centers, but do not specify whether campus police are trauma informed.
