The University of Missouri provides sexual assault prevention training that is in-person but does not include bystander intervention. They do not use the term “sexual assault,” but their definition of “sexual misconduct” is clear and includes acts other than intercourse. The university has an affirmative consent policy, but their definition of affirmative consent only partially matches EROC’s definition. The university forbids retaliation against survivors and provides a definition of retaliation.
The Title IX Coordinator performs a preliminary investigation into the sexual misconduct report. They then state that, at the conclusion of the preliminary investigation, information will be provided on the appropriate procedural process. The University of Missouri does not provide any additional information on the investigation and adjudication process, does not state whether attorneys are allowed to be present during this process, does not publicize the number of cases and sanctions, and does not state that investigators are trauma informed. The university does not provide a specific or clear sanctioning code and explicitly states that appeals are not available. They state that mediation is unavailable in cases of sexual assault and that there is an investigation timeframe of 60 days.
Accommodations are available to survivors outside of the accommodation process. There is a health center with emergency contraception and a sexual assault center. The University of Missouri also has an on-campus rape and sexual violence center that provides services and advocacy for survivors. The university has resources and information on local rape crisis centers but does not state whether campus police are trauma informed.
