The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign offers in-person sexual assault prevention training that includes bystander intervention. Their definition of sexual assault includes acts other than intercourse. The university has an affirmative consent policy that matches EROC’s definition. There is a team of investigators that investigates claims of sexual assault. However, the lead investigator alone makes the finding of responsibility. To determine sanctions, a majority vote is held by a panel called the Subcommittee on Sexual Misconduct. A list of possible sanctions is provided but the university does not publicize the numbers of cases and sanctions. The university also does not specify whether an attorney may be present during the adjudication process. The approximate timeline for the investigation is stated as 45 days. Informal resolution for sexual assault cases is forbidden. Appeals are heard through a separate panel with members from both the investigative team and the sanctioning panel. The university provides accommodations to survivors outside of the adjudication process. University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has a health center that provides emergency contraception. However, they do not have a sexual assault center and refer survivors to a local hospital to receive services. Survivors can also receive advocacy and support services through the women’s center and the university provides resources and information on local rape crisis centers. The university does not specify whether campus police are trauma-informed.
