The University of Connecticut (UConn) has an affirmative consent policy. They offer in-person sexual assault prevention training, which includes bystander intervention training. Retaliation against survivors is forbidden and a definition of retaliation is provided.
A student conduct officer from the Community Standards Office will conduct the investigation and issue a finding of responsibility. It is not specified who issues the sanctions, only that sanctions will be applied appropriately with a finding of responsibility. Both the complainant and respondent are entitled to have an attorney as an advisor, at their own expense. The investigation should take 60 days or less, except for “circumstances” that may extend the timeline, such as gathering witness information and scheduling. Regular updates on progress of the investigation will be provided to both the complainant and respondent. Both the complainant and the accused student will be notified in writing of the outcome within 24 hours of the conclusion of the investigation. Appeals are possible if the investigation finds no policy violation. Either party may request a review of the decision within 5 calendar days of receiving notice of the outcome. Appeals may be made on the basis of “whether (1) the investigation was conducted in a fair, impartial and reliable manner, (2) the information is sufficient to support the factual findings, and (3) there is a rational basis, applying a preponderance of the evidence standards, for the finding of not responsible." It is not specified when sanctions go into effect and if an appeal affects the timeline of sanction implementation. Investigators are stated to be trauma informed.
Accommodations to survivors are available outside of the adjudication process. The University of Connecticut lists confidential resources on campus, including health centers as well as the "Stronger Support Group" which is a confidential support group for UConn student survivors. It is not stated whether campus police receive trauma informed training.
