The University of Central Florida (UCF) provides sexual assault prevention training that is in-person and includes bystander intervention. Their definition of sexual assault includes acts other than intercourse, but they do not have an affirmative consent policy. The university forbids retaliation against complainants, but does not define retaliation.
Either a panel or an individual, depending on the preference of the charged student, will hear the case and determine sanctions. In either case, the Director for the Office of Student Conduct either accepts their findings and proposed sanctions or remands the case for rehearing. The case can be appealed, in which case it will be heard by an appellate officer. It is unclear whether sanctions go into effect immediately or hold off until the end of appeals. The university does not state whether attorneys are allowed during the adjudication process. UCF gives a 60 day time frame for an investigation and does not publicize the number of cases and sanctions. Sanctions will likely involve disciplinary probation, suspension, or expulsion, according to the university. Investigators have received training on issues of sexual assault but are not stated to be trauma informed.
The university provides accommodations for complainants outside of the investigation and adjudication process. UCF has a student health center where emergency contraception is available. However, there is no sexual assault center and the university refers sexual assault survivors to a hospital in the community in order to complete a rape kit. UCF also has a sexual assault advocacy center on campus and provides information on local rape crisis centers. The university does not specify whether campus police are trauma informed.
