The University of Arkansas has in-person sexual assault prevention training that includes bystander intervention. They have a definition of sexual assault that includes acts other than penetration and have an affirmative consent policy. However, their definition of affirmative consent does not match EROC’s. The university provides a definition of retaliation against complainants and forbids retaliation.
The Title IX Coordinator conducts an initial investigation, then involves the Office of Student Standards and Conduct and determines a finding of responsibility. The university gives a range of sanctions for sexual assault that range from censure to expulsion. Both parties may have one advisor present during the adjudication procedures, give an investigation timeline of 60 days, and forbid the use of mediation in cases of sexual assault. Appeals can be filed with the Office of Student Standards and Conduct and sanctions will be put on hold until the appellate body makes a final decision by majority vote. The university does not publicize the number of sexual assault cases and sanctions and does not specify whether investigators are trauma-informed.
While the university does offer accommodation measures for survivors outside of the adjudication process, accommodations are not guaranteed. The University of Arkansas does have a student health center with emergency contraception and a sexual assault resource center. The university refers students to a local hospital for sexual assault services. The university also has a sexual assault advocacy center on campus and provides information on local rape crisis centers. However, they do not specify whether campus police are trauma-informed.
