Bowie State University offers in-person sexual assault prevention training, including bystander intervention training. Retaliation against survivors is forbidden, and a definition of retaliation is provided.
The Title IX Coordinator makes an investigative report at the conclusion of the investigation. Both the complainant and respondent may appeal the decision by filing a request to the Coordinator of Student Conduct. A conduct board conducts a hearing to decide appropriate sanctions if the respondent is found responsible. According to Bowie State University, investigations should be completed within 60 days of receiving receipt of the complaint. Possible sanctions are not listed. It is not clear whether sanctions hold off until the appeals process is complete. The university states that investigators receive annual training, but does not specify that the trainings are trauma informed.
Bowie State University has a student health center with emergency contraception available. They refer students to a local hospital to get a rape kit done. There is a sexual assault advocacy center, Partners in Peace. Bowie State does provide resources and information on local rape crisis centers. Interim measures and accommodations are available. It is not specified whether campus police are trauma informed.
